Markham On Stage

2016

Creativity Hours:10

Action Hours:10

Markham on Stage is an annual inter-house competition that takes place at the beginning of the year and which is organized by the students. The school gives the House Captains (this year it is Paula Arrús and Eduardo Croquet) the theme and then each house creates a story based on it. For this year the theme selected was “70 years of Markham College”. The houses must organize themselves in their own free time and create the plot, dances, songs and make the stage ready for the performance. 10 days before the show, all activities in school are cancelled and the students can stay after class to practice the performance in the classrooms and sometimes in the hall.

Preparation:

This year I'll be helping Paula in the creation of the choreography along with Nathalie Roekaert and I will also be part of the Backstage crew. For the backstage area I will be helping create the props that will be used in the show, such as the trees, posters and windows. Moreover, I will use my skills as a dancer to create the choreographies with inspiration and technique to impress the judges and help our house win.

Outcome:

At the end of this big day our house, Guise, achieved 2nd place. Even though there were some sad faces we new that we had done the best we could and we were all proud of it.

I demonstrated the following CAS Learning Outcomes:

LO 1 - Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth --> I helped by giving ideas for the MOS's themes and applied them while preparing the stage.

LO 2 - Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process --> Some materials were missing so we had to  be crative and use other materials available to create the scenography

LO 3 - Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience --> I went to all the dance practices to memorize the choreography and for there not to be faults in the show, I even gave some feedback on how to improve each choreography.

LO 4 - Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences --> Helped with the organization of the MOS

LO 5 - Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively --> For the backstage preaparation  I worked alongside the house captains and team
