Dance

2016

First Bimester Hours:8

DanceStudio is an art school, which teaches girls from the age of 14 and over choreographies of HipHop and contemporary. I have been taking part in this programme since I am 14 and I have always had a huge passion for dancing, my goal is therefore to keep dancing throughout my IB years. The lessons I take are 4 times a week for 2 hours at a time, but they can even sometimes be for 3 hours when we are rehersing for a presentation.

I demonstrated the following Learning Outcomes:

LO 1 - Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

LO 4 - Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

LO 5 - Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

Second Bimester Hours:8

During the second bimester I continued attending my classes at DanceStudio. The girls and I practiced different genre songs such as HipHop, contemporary dance and some ballet techniques. After a lot of hours of practising and commitment, we presented Chandelier, a contemporary dance song in a school opening in Lima. At first the crew and I were a bit nervous as a lot of people had come and it was also the first time we were applying some of our new techniques in a performance. However, the show was a succes and we were all proud of our presentation as everyone looked very professional and we collaborated very well as a group. This activity has helped me devolp perseverance and trust in the dance partner.

I demonstrated the following Learning Outcomes:

LO 1 - Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

LO 4 - Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

LO 5 - Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

July Break Hours:8

During the July break I continued attending the dance classes with the DanceStudio crew. It was nice to workout with my friends and show each other the new freestyles we were working on. It was good because we gave each other feedback to improve our techniques. In some sessions all of us sat in a corner and from the group we chose 2 or 3 girls to perform new choreographies so everyone could watch. This was fun as we could see how we had developed throughout the years.

I demonstrated the following Learning Outcomes:

LO 1 - Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

LO 4 - Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

LO 5 - Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

Third Bimester Hours:8

During this part of the year, the crew and I performed in several events such as School kermesses and fashion shows. For example in the fashion show “El Rastrillo” DanceStudio performed a popular South African song called “Baby’s On Fire” by the group Die Antwoord for the opening of the catwalk. The feedback we received that night was amazing and made the whole group proud.

During the weeks we went to the studio to practice our movements and expressions while dancing as this time for the song “Baby’s On Fire” by the group Die Antwoord our technique was perfect. My struggle this time with this particular song was that I focused too much on the my movements that I didn’t show my expressions at all, I didn’t even look at the public as I was only concentrated on my movements. I had to practice really hard the last two weeks for the final outcome to be as I wanted it to be. The result of the “Rastrillo” proved to me that I was able to show my expressions and not lose control of my body, therefore the whole choreography resulted synchronized and looked very professional.

I demonstrated the following Learning Outcomes:

LO 1 - Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

LO 4 - Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

LO 5 - Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

I demonstrated the following Learning Outcomes:

LO 1 - Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth --> I improved my dancing technique (urban and hip-hop) and the crew improved in its communication.

LO 4 - Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences --> We had showcases where we performed the best 4 choreographies and a solo, meaning that during lesson we needed to give our best.

LO 5 - Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively --> we constantly demonstrated our team work especially when the choreography involved carrying someone.
